“Safe and Cared For”
Senator Tina Smith visited Prairie Pines Childcare Center on August 16. A group of stakeholders, including Abigail Rolf, Center Director, and Cassie Heide, PPCC Board President, were on hand to welcome her and provide a tour of the facility.
“Prairie Pines Childcare in Fosston is serving families thanks to community support. I helped secure over $400K to remodel the center to expand access for more kids. Projects like these mean rural Minnesota families can head to work and know their children are safe and cared for.” (From Senator Smith’s Twitter Feed.)
Cassie Heide extended the board’s thanks to the Senator. “We could not have done it without your support,” Heide said. “Having that support meant we were able to fully remodel and equip the facility, making it the premiere childcare facility in the area, and we were able to open debt-free.”
“It really felt good to show the Senator what we, as a community, have been able to do with her help,” said Michelle Landsverk, economic development director for the City of Fosston. Landsverk wrote the grant requesting congressionally directed spending. “I was surprised when we were notified that we had been selected to receive funding,” she said. “Of course we had a great project with tremendous community support, but the competition for this funding was fierce.”
